FINTRAC
Isn’t it an invasion of our Privacy to be asked to provide identification?

Effective June 23, 2008, new legislation was enacted requiring a REALTOR® to
Request and examine identification from both Buyers and Sellers alike. REALTORS® and the brokerage which holds their license must record the details and keep this information on file in a secured location for six years. This practice is in compliance with a federal government process through the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Center of Canada (FINTRAC).
Acceptable identification is a birth certificate, driver’s license, passport or similar document. In Ontario, a health card is not an accepted form of identification.
