What is a Real Estate “Designation” and does it mean anything to the Consumer ?
One of a REALTOR®’s duties, as set out in the Codes of Ethics, is of competence.
A Designation is the identifier which confirms that a REALTOR® has completed an approved specific course of study which entitles that salesperson to represent themselves as a graduate of that program.
The identifier most often seen in advertising, as an example, is the logo which the REALTOR® has earned the right to use. Designations reflect enhanced qualifications in specific areas and added-value which a REALTOR® can offer to both Buyer and Seller clients.
Designations are earned in addition to mandatory education credits which must be accomplished in order to renew one’s License.
The ABR designation, the benchmark of excellence in real estate buyer representation, demonstrates to clients that the agent has taken steps to continue their education in the field of buyer representation and has the proven experience and training to deliver ethical and professional service to real estate buyer.There are more than 41,000 active members of organization world wide.
